So Many Great Posts!

I need to check this blog more often! You guys have really been writing some neat posts!

To be honest, I've been pretty depressed lately. Wyoming is a tough place to live in winter time for a fresh food junkie. After our Christmas trip to Kansas where we introduced green smoothies to all of you and took a trip to the whole foods store, I realized that enduring through the winter in Wyoming was going to be hard to do. When it is below zero for days and weeks in a row, the last thing I ever want is a cold green smoothie. I want hot tea! Also, I became depressed when we returned home to find that during the winter, our grocery stores are pretty much limited to spinach and kale for our greens (and only the spinach is organic). The only organic fruit we can get are bananas and apples and the occasional grapefruit. Green smoothies got pretty boring around here this winter.

So far in 2011, we have had two warm days and one hot day. The rest have been cold, windy, rainy or all of the above. We couldn't even think about planting our garden until Memorial Day weekend, and even then, the soil was still too clumpy (but we did it anyway). Our greens are coming up now. They are all about 1/4 of an inch long. It will still be a while before we get some variety in our green smoothies.

I have suffered through another extremely long winter stuck inside the house with two very energetic preschoolers. We can't afford a YMCA membership this year which means the only indoor place to go play during the winter is McDonalds. You can guess how happy that makes me. It's been a long, long winter.

Now that the summer months are coming upon us (I hope), I plan to get inspired again by the sunshine and warm weather and start running in the mornings. I am hoping that will snap me out of this. The two warm days we had, I did run - and it felt great. The one hot day we had, I went out and painted some landscapes and flowers.

I'm praying we get some more nice weather, stat.

Love,
Mara

  1. Just as your greens are getting started, ours are dying out! It's become too hot for the lettuces and spinach to survive. Hope a change of season helps you feel better soon!!

    Love ya,

  2. Love the landscapes you painted. Maybe, summer will decide to show up in Wyoming soon.
